Class 5: Space to Earth Launch

Lesson: British Values

Class: Year 5 Year: 2015 - 2016

Recently, British astronaut Tim Peake launched into space to become the first British astronaut to live and work on the International Space Station (ISS).  Livingstone watched the live launch in December and Class 5 are completing the ‘Space to Earth Challenge’ to celebrate Tim’s mission.  Our challenge is to cover the 400km distance from Earth to the ISS.  We will complete a range of missions and challenges to reach our goal.

Mission 1:  Our first mission was to get off the ground and to the top of the Soyuz rocket. The rocket launched from Kazakhstan and the astronauts sat in the capsule which was 50m above the ground.  For our first mission, we ran the 50m length of the rocket, in our relay teams, to accumulate 1.1km towards our 400km total.   Afterwards, we tried freeze-dried astronaut food.  A great start to our ‘Space to Earth Challenge’ Class 5 – well done!
